Diana Delander is an artist who works primarily in oils. Influenced by her Mother's and Grandmother's creativity Diana was intensely surrounded by art, creating art from an early age. As a youth Diana spent much of her time recording her thoughts visually through drawing and painting. Attending the the Arts League with her Grandmother as a child. Although she was a child the League accepted her as a student. Painting became intuitive for her, exploring colors and techniques without the inhibitions we have as adults. This gave her the confidence to paint intuitively. Winning awards, and scholarships. She pursued the art of painting through college, and then over the years continued with private instruction with many well known painters.
Diana is drawn to nature’s many forms, but works primarily with images of the landscape and still life. She is an avid plein air painter and says, "Plein air painting outdoors is a huge part of my process - it inspires, motivates, and is the source for my larger studio work. It is an excuse to be outside, experiencing nature firsthand. The whole process of searching for the perfect spot and chasing the fleeting light is irresistible to me."
Diana is driven by a desire to record life's beauty. Her consistency and compulsion to paint is evident in the large number of paintings created in a relatively short amount of time. As this collection of work grows so does her passion for exploring and finding meaning in the language of painting.
"I would describe my work as realism, although most of the paintings have an impressionistic feel. The brush strokes are laid on the canvas similar to those of the impressionists, in patches of color. I paint whatever interest me authentically, I try to capture it's spirit. My paintings sometimes start off quite abstract but eventually, through the process of combining shapes of value and color, the subject comes to life in a form of realism, although sometimes vice versa. The completed painting is an authentic painterly representation of the subject with a strong emphasis on its spirit."
Diana's paintings have been sold to collectors in the United States and in countries around the world. Desired by collectors and designers, and recently working independently with collectors in Jackson Hole, WY and Santa Fe, NM.
